Can you play BeamNG.drive on Mac?

Short answer: yes, on an Apple Silicon Mac - but not the way most games work. BeamNG GmbH has never shipped a native Mac build, and as of 2026 there is still no macOS version on Steam. What you run is the Windows build, and something has to translate its DirectX calls into something your Mac's GPU understands.

That is what Hrava does: it translates DirectX to Apple Metal on the fly, so the frames come from your own GPU. No video stream, no Windows licence, no partitioning your disk. You keep your existing Steam copy of BeamNG.drive - Hrava is a compatibility layer, not a store, so you are not buying the game twice.

What to expect

Performance is CPU-bound

BeamNG's soft-body physics simulates every beam and node of a car in real time, and that work lands on the CPU, not the GPU. This is true on Windows too. On Apple Silicon it means the chip tier and core count matter more than in a typical game - an M-series Pro or Max chip handles busy multi-car scenes far better than a base chip. Expect to lower traffic density and car count before you lower texture quality.

Mods work

BeamNG mods are ordinary files in the game's user folder, and the repository is built into the game itself. Because Hrava runs the real Windows build rather than a cut-down port, the in-game mod manager behaves normally - subscribe, download, drive. There is no separate "Mac version" of a mod to hunt for.

Single-player, and about BeamMP

Career, scenarios, freeroam and the campaign are all single-player and have no kernel-level anti-cheat - the one thing macOS genuinely cannot run. BeamMP, the community multiplayer mod, has no kernel anti-cheat either, so there is no technical blocker in principle. We have not certified it separately, so treat multiplayer as untested rather than promised.

Ways to play BeamNG.drive on a Mac, compared

MethodRuns on your GPUNeeds WindowsCost
HravaYes - DirectX to MetalNo$39 once
CrossOverYesNo$54 every year
Cloud gaming (Boosteroid, GeForce NOW)No - video stream, needs fast internetNo~$90-200 a year, forever
Parallels / virtual machinePartly - weak 3D, no DX12Yes, plus a licence$99.99 a year + Windows
Boot Camp--Not available on Apple Silicon at all

The honest trade-off: cloud gaming needs no compatibility layer but you are renting forever and playing a compressed video feed - rough for a physics game where you read the car through small motions. A local layer costs once and keeps working offline. See the full comparison.

BeamNG.drive on Mac - FAQ

Is there a native Mac version of BeamNG.drive?

No. BeamNG GmbH has never released a macOS build, and there is none in 2026 - the Steam page lists Windows only. Anything that plays BeamNG.drive on a Mac is running the Windows build through a compatibility layer, streaming it from a remote PC, or running it inside a virtual machine.

How do I download BeamNG.drive on a Mac?

You do not download a separate Mac copy - there is not one. Install Hrava, sign in to your Steam account inside it, and install BeamNG.drive through the built-in SteamCMD. It downloads the normal Windows build into a self-contained folder that Hrava manages for you. If you already own the game on Steam, there is nothing else to buy.

Which Macs can run it?

Apple Silicon only - M1 or newer, on macOS 14 or later. Intel Macs are not supported by Hrava. Because BeamNG leans on the CPU for its physics, more performance cores translate directly into more cars on screen before the frame rate drops.

Is this an emulator? Will the game feel sluggish?

It is not an emulator. Hrava translates DirectX calls into Apple Metal and lets your own GPU draw the frames - there is no second machine and no video stream, so there is no added input lag from a network. The physics runs on your CPU exactly as it would on Windows.

Does multiplayer (BeamMP) work?

BeamMP is a community mod and does not use kernel-level anti-cheat, so unlike protected multiplayer in some other titles there is no fundamental macOS blocker. That said, we have not certified BeamMP as part of our compatibility testing - consider it untested rather than guaranteed. Single-player, career and freeroam are what this page covers.

What if it does not run well on my Mac?

Hrava is a one-time $39 purchase with a 14-day money-back guarantee, so the intended way to find out is to try it on your own hardware and your own copy of the game. If it is not for you, ask for a refund inside 14 days - no interrogation.
