Hrava

FAQ

Questions & answers

Short and honest - the essentials: how Hrava differs from the cloud, what is supported, and where the limits are.

Does Hrava include D3DMetal?

No. You obtain Apple D3DMetal as part of Game Porting Toolkit directly from Apple. Hrava does not bundle, distribute or resell D3DMetal. During setup, Hrava makes obtaining the component from the official source as straightforward as possible and automatically configures your local copy.

Is this streaming, like GeForce NOW?

No. The game runs right on your Mac, not on a server somewhere - no blurry video, no lag, and no internet needed while you play.

Which Macs are supported?

Any Apple Silicon Mac - M1 or newer - with macOS 14 or later. The faster your chip, the smoother the game.

Will my favorite game run?

Most single-player games - yes. Only anticheat-protected multiplayer (EAC, BattlEye) will not run - a macOS limitation, not Hrava. Check your game in the compatibility catalog.

Is this an emulator? Will games be slow?

No, it is not an emulator. Hrava translates the game to your Mac's native language on the fly - no middle layers, so almost no speed loss.

Is my card safe?

Yes. Payments happen on a secure PCI-DSS checkout page - Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, PayPal. We never see or store your card details.

What is included in the price?

Everything - all features and all future updates. Pay once and use it forever, on your Macs. No yearly charges.

Can I play a game that is not on Steam?

Yes. Hrava installs the game from its setup file (.exe or .msi) the way Windows would, and adds it to your library. A game you already installed can be added from its folder. Steam is only needed for Steam games.

How does playing on a VR headset work?

The game runs on your Mac and the picture is sent to the headset browser over Wi-Fi - nothing is installed on the headset. Any headset with a modern browser works: Quest, Vision Pro, Pico and others. Play with a gamepad, keyboard or mouse; the headset controller works too. Note that this is a big virtual screen, not a stereoscopic VR mode. More

What are add-ons, and what do they cost?

They are free modules inside Hrava. We add new add-ons and AI features regularly. They switch on under Settings - Add-ons and work with an active licence. About add-ons

Do I need a separate Steam client?

No. Hrava connects to your Steam account and installs games itself - nothing extra to set up.

How is Hrava better than CrossOver?

Hrava is cheaper - a one-time purchase versus $54 every year - and it configures everything per game automatically, where CrossOver is mostly manual. Hrava is about Steam games; CrossOver is better for Windows work apps. Details at /vs/crossover/.

Whisky is no longer maintained - what replaces it?

Whisky was discontinued in April 2025 - no more updates. Hrava is a actively maintained alternative: it configures everything and installs Steam games itself. Comparison at /vs/whisky/.

Is this cheaper than GeForce NOW?

Yes. Hrava is a one-time purchase - play as much as you want. GeForce NOW is a rental at ~$100-200 per year, with a 100-hour monthly cap and a fast-internet requirement. Details at /vs/geforce-now/.

Do I need a Windows license, like with Parallels?

No. Hrava translates the game to your Mac's native language - no separate Windows needed, and nothing to pay for it. Parallels and VMware, by contrast, require an installed Windows and run games worse.

Is there a free version or trial?

There is no free version - Hrava unlocks after purchase. But there is a 14-day refund window: buy it, try it on your own games, and if it does not click - we refund you, no interrogation.

Do gamepads and controllers work?

Yes - Hrava has full controller support. Xbox, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock, and most other Bluetooth or USB gamepads work out of the box. Connect over Bluetooth or with a cable and the game detects it automatically - no drivers, no manual button mapping. You can play entirely with the controller - menus and all - without ever touching the keyboard.
